Teaching
My teaching spans linguistic, sociocultural, media, and multimodal anthropology, semiotics, media and film studies, and critical theory. As an instructor, I emphasize close reading, collaborative learning, and connecting course material to students' own worlds.
I have taught as both a sole instructor and a discussion leader, including two courses of my own design, and I hold a Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from UC Berkeley.

Poetics of Crisis
Designed and taught. A reading and composition seminar on crisis as a narrative and rhetorical genre, and on the political stakes of framing situations as "crises." University of California, Berkeley.
Anthropology of Animation
Designed and taught. Links classical anthropological texts to contemporary theories of animism, animatedness, and animacy, foregrounding processes of racialization and objectification. University of California, Berkeley.

Courses I Am Prepared to Teach or Develop
Language, Media, and Power
An introduction to linguistic and media anthropology, examining how language, images, sound, and technology shape social life and intersect with power, culture, and agency. Assumes no background.
AI, Language, and Power
Explores critiques of existing AI systems and alternative visions of AI from queer, decolonial, racialized, and feminist perspectives.
Authorship, Authority, and Authenticity
A seminar on genres of testimony, registers of expertise, and the shifting status of documentary evidence in an age of disinformation.
Semiotic, Aesthetic, and Political Infrastructures
A seminar on the communicative systems that ground participation in public life, from documentary aesthetics to affective economies.
I am also prepared to teach methods courses and workshops in digital and multimodal ethnography, visual methods, and semiotic analysis, and to advise students working on language, gesture, voice, and images.
